Intact skin forms a barrier against blood borne pathogens, but broken skin can allow infections in. Broken skin can be a cut or a skin condition that affects the layers of the skin. When tattooing, the skin is damaged through multiple punctures. Skin infections can be spread through dirty or infected equipment in any sector including showers and living areas.
